In cooperation with Spoon Records, the historical home for all things Can, Mute Records will reissue the 1971 karut-rock masterpiece Tago Mago, along with a bonus disc of previously unreleased live tracks from 1972.
Released with the original UK cover, for many it will be a trip down memory lane with hits like “Bring Me Coffee or Tea” [which for anyone who has seen the film Norwegian Wood recently, may recognize from the soundtrack] and the 18 min+ “Halleluwah”. Genre-defying Can is known for influencing bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, Sonic Youth, John Lydon, Primal Scream and Radiohead, among others.
Tago Mago is the first album with Damo Suzuki on vocals, Holger Czukay on bass, Michael Karoli on guitars, Jaki Liebezeit on drums and Irmin Schmidt on keyboards. It was recorded at Schloss Nörvenich in 1971 and released later that year on United Artists. The album is to be re-released on November 14 on Spoon/Mute Records, while a vinyl box set of all 14 Can albums, all remastered from original tapes is planned for release in 2012.
