UK synthpop artist Chad Valley (also known as Hugo Manuel) just released his first full-length record, Young Hunger, and is touring the US and bumping out those good dancy vibes, but that hasn't stopped him from releasing two new remixes. The first comes from Depeche Mode founding member and 1/2 of the duod Erasure, Vincent Clarke, who has taken the song āUp and Downā to a high-powered sweetness that might remind you of the early days of club disco. The vocals are echoey and earnest; the Clarke remix reminds us that Chad Valley is truly a diva of dance songcraft.
The second remix is by Canadian producer Bwana, this time of the track āI Owe You Thisā, a decidely more haunted remix with sparser elements, some percussive taps and clicks, and a buildup that is present in the Valley song, but more indeterminate here. The listener wonders where things are going as every bar passes with another element addedāa keyed blip, a vocal tone, a hi-hat. The uprising present in this remix is very well-paced and a definite reward.
