Comic crush Ron Rege Jr. has new music

Post Author:

Ron Rege, Jr. is the Discombobulated Ventriloquist. He draws, he makes music, he is my comic crush, strictly platonic of course.

I'll leave the questions to Nu Pop Movement:

Why do we love Ron Rege? Maybe it’s the intensity of his comic drawing, the close, cluttered, but somehow orderly and mathematical way he creates his worlds. Maybe it’s the words inside his cartoons, the letters hidden almost, the alphabet used as shape and color and then – pow! suddenly an abstract message appears if you look long and hard, a weird, little, eloquent thought that makes sense just below the surface. Maybe it’s because it’s rare we see comics this good and this smart and this strange.

Ron Rege

Just pop into a comic store, or visit his blog, Plight of the Cartoon Utopian, or do an internerd search of Rene, Jr's work. I'm not sure what he has in store for the future other than selling/drawing comics, or being the drummer for Lavender Diamond, but for now, sink your teeth into his new (free) recording under Discombobulated Ventriloquist available for download at New Other Thing (who also house releases by Javelin and Lucky Dragons, among others.)

Enjoy and listen here.
