Brooklyn's band of sisters (not actual sisters, sisters in rock solidarity) Heliotropes have released a song from their upcoming debut album, A Constant Sea, and if there's a record we can't wait to get our hands on, it's this one. After Jessica A. Numsuwankijkul submitted to us a story entitled Monica Lewinsky vs. Eddie Vedder in Purgatory while the band was recording their record in upstate NY, we knew that they were a group after our own hearts. (And just to be clear, we agree that Eddie should be detained, while Monica goes free.) With the first single off their debut LP, “Psalms”, there's an omnipresent psych-rock and grunge influence that splays out like its the 70s and we're all riding around in maroon tour vans. The effects on the slaying, chuggy solo give the single a sharper edge, compounded by the hard-hitting race to the track's end. But the greatest element in the song is the Kim Deal-esque vocals that kill us with their misleading sweetness, all while Numsuwankijkul sings “Am I really born to die?”

The foursome has two dates coming up—one at Glasslands and another at the 4Knots Festival at the South Street Seaport. Check out more details for those dates below. A Constant Sea releases on June 18 through Manimal Vinyl. Click here for more photos of Heliotropes' March show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn.
