The tenth edition of the free, annual Afropunk Festival began on Saturday, August 23 in Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, NY with performances by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Body Count, Bad Brains (with guest vocalists such as John Joseph of Cro-Mags and Corey Glover of Living Colour filling in for HR), Trash Talk, Fame School, Shabazz Palaces, The Bots, Denitia and Sene, clipping., TECLA, Alicia Smith, Kandace Springs, Lianne La Havas, Valerie June, Baby Baby, Loaf Muzik and more. There were also DJ sets by THEESatisfaction, King Britt, Roofeo, CX Kidtronik, Byrell the Great, Blaqstarr and Smallwood, Oscar Nñ + Adam R and others.
