CHIKARA PRO presents A New Start

Post Author: Eric Phipps

On Sunday, January 25, CHIKARA PRO began their 2015 season at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. Once more, Eric Phipps was allowed to photograph the action ringside. The event called, A New Start, picked up with long-standing rivalries and confrontations from December’s Tomorrow Never Dies. The first match was Sydney Bakabella’s The Wrecking Crew (The Devastation Corporation; Blaster McMassive, Flex Rumblecrunch and Max Smashmaster) with Oleg the Usurper and Jaka defeating long time rivals The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield and Mr Touchdown) plus Princess Kimberlee, Shynron, and Jervis Cottonbelly. Nøkken defeated Ophidian in what was an interesting match of hoss versus high flyer as Ophidian had to change his style to try to make any headway against his much larger opponent. Tag Teams N_R_G (Hype Rockwell and Race Jaxon in neon and checkerboard) defeated heel stable The Colony Xtreme Force (Arctic Rescue Ant and Missile Assault Ant) so quickly that Eric didn’t get many images from that match. Ultramantis Black defeated Juan Francisco de Coronado in what threatened to become a battle of the suplexes before de Coronado’s tricky tactics enraged Ultramantis who rallied to get the win.

Returning villains Die Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Jakob Hammermeier and Pinkie Sanchez) re-teamed with the currently mind controlled Soldier Ant to defeat The Colony (Fire Ant, Silver Ant and Worker Ant) as the Colony were reluctant to attack their former teammate, a reluctance exploited by Jakob Hammermeier. Kevin Condron (formerly Kid Cyclone) defeated Eddie Kingston by disqualification. Knowing that he wasn’t a match for the bruiser physically, Condron goaded the giant to higher levels of violence until as the referee’s back was turned he faked a below the belt hit by Kingston forcing a DQ. Stripping away Kingston’s claim to a championship match. Frightmare & Hallowicked in amazing new gear defeated The Batiri (Kodama and Obariyon) in an absolutely brutal combination of high flying and hoss stamina draining. The main event was for the Chikara Grand Championship as former teammates Icarus defeated Chuck Taylor. Chuck resorted to cheating and street fight techniques yet Icarus matched him beat for beat to overcome his former friend. If any of this intrigues you, the next CHIKARA PRO event is Feb 8’s National Pro Wrestling Day and is TOTALLY FREE.
