Keep it on the DL, but animals are totally in this season. Not so much
animal prints, but decapitated animal heads. The Magic Wands happened to
feature three onstage with them. Staring right back at you from the stage of
the Great American Music Hall, two fierce-looking lion heads perched on rather
painful-looking stakes while thousands of tiny laser beams danced and twinkled
on the elaborate Victorian ceiling. These kids know how to cultivate some
ambiance.
Performing with a zebra-masked drummer and guitarist for the first time, the
group was engulfed in throbbing spotlights as it busted out its fuzzed-out
80s pop with a twist. Powering through a deafening rendition of “Kiss Me Dead”
and synthy jam “Black Magic,”
