On Friday, May 16th, Red Bull Music Academy presented a show at Knockdown Center in Maspeth, NY called “Hardcore Activity in Progress,” focusing on extreme recording artists in metal, techno, jazz, classical, noise, hip hop, and beyond. Since there were fifteen artists performing on three separate stages at the 50,000 square foot space, we dispatched photographers Edwina Hay and Eric Phipps to capture as much as they could during the long, rainy night. They returned photos of Gnaw, Okkyung Lee, Reg Bloor, Bastard Noise, The Thing, Wolf Eyes, clipping. (performing their first New York City area show ever), pianist Lubomyr Melnyk, Napalm Death and rapper Gunplay (yes, the Gunplay).
