TECLA and Maluca Mala at Cameo Gallery

On Sunday, November 23, Art in Motion and Mayimba Music hosted a fundraiser for the Batey 106 Project at Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Bateys are rural communities in the Dominican Republic that arose from the sugarcane industry. Members of the community, especially youth, don’t have access to creative education or programs. The event for Art in Motion featured performances by TECLA and Maluca Mala to raise funds for the project which is meant to “empower the children, teens and young adults of Batey 106, using the arts, music, fashion, photography and filmmaking as a tool to cultivate creativity.” (Haitian Times)
