The beautiful harmonies of Lily and Madeline Jurkiewicz, teenage sisters from Indianapolis, IN, are bound to make any only-child jealous that they do not have a sibling to start a band with. Their first EP, The Weight of the Globe, and several very popular YouTube videos, attracted the attention of Sufjan Stevens’ Asthmatic Kitty Records. Following the release of their self-titled debut, the sisters are back with a new album, titled Fumes. Rookie premiered the video for the album’s first single, “The Wolf Is Free,” and did a brief interview with the pair, which you can read here. The video, directed by Kati Cohen, finds the sisters surrounded by mythical and mysterious objects, such as candles, tea, and a shopping cart filled with detritus. The sisters are unafraid of the metaphorical wolf, instead they want to “chase him down and drown him in the sea.” These symbols, along with the dreamy confidence and bravery of the Jurkiewicz sisters, makes the ominous feel less threatening.
Fumes comes out October 28 on Asthmatic Kitty.
