With just a couple well-regarded albums, TDE was a powerhouse all 2017. With albums like Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. and SZA’s CTRL, the LA-based label is looking like a strong bet to jump into the canon of greatest hip-hop crews ever. Not only are the big names in good shape, it’s still-burgeoning acts like SiR who are poised to make 2018 another banner year for the crew. Riding the wave of success from his heralded HER series, SiR is set to release a full-length album on January 19th and also join Miguel’s The War And Leisure Tour.
“Something Foreign” is a sultry introduction into what the project may sound like. The mysterious, jazzy track showcases SiR’S vocal gifts, as he illuminates the dark canvas with a melodic cadence that Schoolboy Q carries into his own R-rated verse. The song is paired with a dark, Psycho Films-directed video accentuating various colors, from the yellow lights to the blue-tinted spotlight over SiR which makes the cloudy air around him seem majestic. It will be compelling to see how high SiR flies in 2018.
