Steve Beckett, Warp

Red Bull Music Academy Radio in Australia has a new streaming conversation and curated playlist picked from the Warp Records catalog up for the stream-jacking. Forget the energy drink logo hovering over the speakers' heads. It’s like an illuminated manuscript you listen to, with anecdotal history painted in the margins straight from the mouth of the horse/Warp Records label head Steve Beckett. Tune in to this “Fireside Chat” for background on tracks from Battles, Jamie Lidell, Aphex Twin, and Black Dog, among others, along with some spoken flashbacks from the early days of the Sheffield warehouse party scene.

You can watch it in video form, in three parts, here, here, and here, as well.

Much science dropped over the program’s course, and all pretension dropped at the door. Warp has been around for over ten years because it’s driven by a simple enthusiasm for great new music.
