Brighton’s Thyla gifted the world their new single “I Was Biting” that blends dream-developed guitar arrangements that trade in a choice collection of power-chords & a patient that has to be heard to be believed. Released through Rex Records, Thyla is operating on a rock zeitgeist that is not just something you hear every day. This is the sound to level the old pantheons & pillars & civic establishment of the previous pop canons. Millie Duthie leads the group with a vocal of determined light that guides the constant chorus of inspired-amplified strings.
“I Was Biting” is a sound that operates in a time & place of its own. It hearkens back to the Brit Pop buzz of the 90s, but manages to rock louder & prouder than the works of Elastica, Sleeper & the like with a gravity that Millie & the group cultivate from their own experiences & aesthetic sensibilities. This is the band worthy of being overplayed from Later With Jools Holland, The Word, TOTP, Gold Flake Paint, Line of the Best Fit & everywhere the champions tomorrow’s bold & brave music creators. Thyla this week has provided the world with something to champion & believe in that practically sings to every fiber of our collective beings. In Millie Duthie’s own words:

“I Was Biting” is all about the anxieties of modern day life, the drudgery of routine, conformity, and unnecessary pressures. It’s about a desire to live in a fictional state of being; a sort of utopia that we know to be imaginary but we still beg for others to dream of too.
