Vancouver pop geniuses The Courtneys have just released II on New Zealand’s esteemed & distinguished Flying Nun Records & it is our pleasure & privilege to present the following exclusive guest selections from Jen, Courtney & Syd:

JEN

1.DVSN x Aaliyah, “One in a Million” (DVSN remix)

DVSN are an R&B duo from Toronto who are getting hella popular right now. It’s a singer and a producer. I saw them open for Drake, and they played this track that’s like a remix of Aaliyah and Prince with added vocals, and it blew my mind.

2. Versing, Nude Descending

Versing are my current favorite band from the Pacific Northwest. We played with them on our last tour. I remember they had just started playing and Syd and I were just like, WHAAAAAT?!

3. Ashley Monroe, “Weed Instead Of Roses”

I wouldn’t be living up to my nickname “Country Courtney” if I didn’t put a country song on here. Ashley Monroe is my favorite contemporary country artist. I seriously love her voice so much, I wish I sounded like her. She’s also in this group called Pistol Annies, and I love them too.

COURTNEY

1. The Bee Gees, “Paradise”

I’ve been really into anything groovy lately, which naturally brought me deep into the Bee Gees. This isn’t a deep cut of course, but its so perfect!

2.Bill Nelson, “Contemplation”

I love all the sounds in this song, it’s so fun.

3. Fleetwood Mac, “Only Over You”

This Fleetwood Mac song has the most amazing noodly guitar bit at the end. I use an app on my phone to loop this bit on my stereo and listen to it for like an hour.

SYDNEY

I’m deep into early techno and funk/electrofunk. These are some of my favorite songs right now:

1. Carmen, “Thrown Down”

Carmen was only 14 when she recorded this song!

3. “Frankie Smith”, Double Dutch Bus”

Cheers me up anytime. I saw a busker play this in Vancouver recently, and I lost my mind – I was so happy!
