Andrea Di Giovanni – Drowning

Born into a strictly observant Roman Catholic family, Andrea grew up in Rome as the middle child between his older brother and younger sister. His mother, who came from a large Italian family, installed in him the values of sticking together as a family and protecting each other… Something Andrea still holds dear. It hasn’t always been plain sailing for Andrea though. He spent a lot of his younger life struggling with his sexuality and identity. Coming from a strict Italian background, there was no shortage of oppression from the wider community and, Andrea was subject to bullying as a child, and as a result became withdrawn and shy. It was at this young age that he turned to music as a means of solace and to express his innermost feelings.

His first single of the year ‘Our Own Way’ was premiered by The Line of Best Fit and received support from Spotify Fresh Finds and a number of online tastemakers. He also reached the final of Pride’s Got Talent and received a personal backing from judge Sinitta, confirming Andrea as “A star.. Original and fantastic.” His new single has just launched on Clash and it’s a distinct statement of intent from the innovative pop rising star. Co-written with Jamie Sellers (Alesha Dixon/ Pixie Lott) It’s an infectious and festival-worthy anthem that perfectly treads the line between pop & cheese factor.
“This song is about a relationship that it’s coming to its end. I’ve taken a lot of shit, promises previously made are now broken but in my mind there’s no debate, I won’t be drowning anymore. It’s the second step, I was still hiding my emotions although I know how I really felt inside but I wanted to react, I couldn’t accept the pain any more.”
