Released today digitally and next week on vinyl, Archie Pelago's Hall of Human Origins EP landed on the digital airwaves this morning to throw you off your game. Premiering through Dummy Mag, its five songs are all unexpected, shapeshifting dance-funk-jazz hybrids who shed genres and categorization with every turn of phrase and beat addition. As a DJ/live instrumentation mashup, the Brooklyn three-piece manage to take a style of music that can easily fall into the gutters of culture (hidden on anonymous SoundClouds and exposed at larger-than-life dance festivals), and made it fresh and nuanced again. Utilizing dense effects, stormy but thoughtful tenor saxophone, and crisp, clean beats that don't aim to dominate, Archie Pelago's latest EP might be a landmark for what is up next in the everchanging dance landscape. It's the least we could pray for, anyway.

Hall of Human Origins is available now through Styles Upon Styles.
