Austel – Crows

Music was always an inevitable path for Austel, a.k.a Devon-born artist Annie Rew Shaw.

Studying classical vocals and piano from a young age led to performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival and touring Italy with her school jazz band and composing her first songs in her early teens. Since making the step to move to London at just 19 years of age, she’s quickly established herself as a regular studio presence, becoming a familiar face in collaborations with Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, Lyla Foy, Munro Fox and Stella Martyr, performing at Glastonbury Festival, supporting Fleet Foxes and touring the UK on multiple occasions.

Alongside music, Austel creates her own poetry and art, as well as designing her release artwork and visuals with fellow creatives. Keen to engage more in the world around her and utilise a love of writing, she also contributes articles to new publication Women’s Music News.

Austel’s debut EP ‘Unfold’ – due for release later this year – is the culmination of these experiences and musical influences. Her first single is the intricate and bewitching ‘Crows’. Employing dark percussive elements and classy synth chords, it’s a stunning piece of electronica that’s bound to win over fans of SOHN, James Blake & Goldfrapp.
