Chasms, “Riser”

Expansive and lonesome, this latest track from Chasms, the deliberately titled “Riser”, makes listening to the dreampop sadwave band feel epic and quiet all at the same time. It has been doused with constant shine and shade that float between each other in a well-executed intent to show that sad things can also make smiles. There is a deconstructed beat that features a heavy tambourine, and with gritty guitars that have been processed and filtered beyond recognition, there is a heightened sense of the melancholy in the track. “Riser” is like if you took a gospel choir and put it through an ice luge. It's cold and comforting to a dreamwavy fault.

Chasms are touring with Dirty Beaches and SISU this fall, and you can check them out at these dates. Pick up the Riser cassette through Dream Recordings at this link.
