When Operation: Doomsday dropped, Doom was a super villain out to destroy rap. Nowadays, his name has taken rap to unprecedented levels. We're talking Thom York remix treatment.
The Gazzillion Ears EP created quite a stir yesterday as the internet was convinced Kanye West was done being a jackass and back to putting his talents to good use. On the contrary, he's merely let the Madvillainz use his voice for its remix of Doom's “Gazzillion Ears.” Confirmation on whether or not Kanye is still into gay fish (yo), has yet to reach our offices.
The Gazzillion Ears EP, with or without Kanye's production, looks promising on paper. Remix work by Thom York and Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio never hurt anybody's song. Given Sitek's work on the Wale album, his remix is not much of a surprise. But, kudos to Thom York for making a serviceable hip hop remix. More artists/publicists/visionaries/close friends need to get a capellas of rap songs into his inbox.
Preorders for the Gazzillion Ears EP 12″ can be made at the Lex Records store.
