Swiss singer-songwriter dazzles with reflective indie folk EP
Returning with a stunning, affecting and altogether unique new project, Laurel Bloom’s debut EP Painting The Sunlight In My Room is a captivating introduction to an artist with a unique voice and perspective. With echoes of Andy Shauf and Aldous Harding, Bloom’s music is rooted in a rich tradition of folk songwriting, yet it also possesses a distinct, eccentric charm.
The EP’s title reflects its intimate origins. Recorded in the living room of Bloom’s childhood home, the songs are imbued with a sense of nostalgia and reflection. Bloom’s lyrics explore themes of growth, letting go, and the bittersweet embrace of childhood memories. The arrangements are sparse and acoustic, allowing Bloom’s voice and storytelling to take centre stage.
Painting The Sunlight In My Room is a promising debut that showcases Bloom’s talent for crafting evocative and introspective songs. He explains “Painting The Sunlight In My Room after placing a piano in the living room of my childhood home. This intimate space, filled with memories of youth, is as integral to my songs as the vibrant cracks in the crumbling house itself. My songs are stories of growing pains, the process of letting go and moving on, and the peace that comes from embracing childhood.”
