L.A. garage-psych marauders unleash their latest sonic freakshow
California garage-psych marauders Frankie and the Witch Fingers are one of our favorite bands of the last several years. From their spirited 2013 debut Sidewalk to their sprawling 2018 epic ZAM, the L.A.-by-way-of-Indiana four-piece has consistently invigorated the psychedelic music scene with a heavy diet of explosive, buzz-sawing riffage, mind-melting solos and frenetic rhythmic energy. Now Frankie continues that glorious run with another incredible new album that drops today, the expansive and pummeling stunner Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters.
Frankie’s most ambitious album yet, Monsters is a firm hard rock heel-turn containing moments of Sabbath-y psych-soul madness, jazzy prog interludes, and convulsive sequences of sonic unwinding that emphatically descend back into heavy riff-laced breakdowns. As always, singer Dylan Sizemore’s hypnotic vocals chart the path forward while Josh Menashe’s perilous guitar work reaches for the stratospheres. Drummer Shaughnessy Star continues to be the group’s secret weapon as the percussion is more centered and diverse than on any previous Frankie LP to date. Meanwhile, new bassist Nikki Pickle (of Death Valley Girls) rounds out of the lineup as they continue to push the unique boundaries of their sound.
Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters is available for purchase via Greenway Records in SIX different color vinyl editions. You can buy the album HERE and sample it below.
