New Hampshire-based indie-folk musician crafts introspective, experimental new LP
Returning with an emotionally diverse and unique new album, Norwood shares the stunning Rain Is Always An Opportunity. Known for his distinctive alt-indie-folk style, Norwood has crafted an album that is both introspective and experimental, building on the themes from his previous work, Miss the Point.
This New Hampshire-based artist collaborated with producer Jeremy Gustin and Ryan Dugre of Toth, whom he met serendipitously at one of their shows. The trio’s synergy is palpable throughout the album, which was recorded over nine joyful and spontaneous days. The recording process itself was a unique journey, marked by creative experimentation and a whimsical approach to sound. For instance, the title track was inspired by a rainstorm, with the sounds of rain and tape fuzz blending seamlessly to create a soothing backdrop.
Tracks like “Labyrinth” and “Calypso” showcase unconventional elements such as fruit biting and laughter-induced harmonies, while Jeremy’s versatile oboe playing and dynamic drum work lay the foundation for each song. There’s raw and vulnerable moments in tracks like “Icarus” and a leftfield production style in the lead single “Hunger.” You can listen for yourself below.
