Notelle – “Come For Me”

Nashville indie-pop songstress thrills with dark, brooding single

Notelle is a rising alt-pop singer-songwriter from Nashville with a devastatingly ethereal singing voice. A veteran of the Nashville music scene, she emerged as a solo artist in 2018 by conjuring hyper-ominous moods through a palette of dark, brooding electronic indie-pop sounds. Last year she dropped a handful of excellent singles that we’ve still got in rotation, now she continues to level up thanks to her hypnotizing latest single “Come For Me.”

On this off-kilter slice of “nightmare pop,” Notelle’s soothing and dramatic vocals float over a tapestry of flickering IDM textures, propulsive electro-pop beats, and a dash of industrial/darkwave. Heavy low end, echoey production and bending synths create an intoxicating atmosphere. It’s a track that ebbs and flows in mesmerizing ways.

On the song’s haunting themes, Notelle shared:

“I have always found the concept of ‘shadows’ fascinating, as they’re quite literally a dark-sided piece of you that is intangible, yet always present. It reminded me a lot of the remnants of an old love. They’re there still, but not really…it’s a frightening concept. Its widely accepted, at this point, that all living things are made up of energy – and I’ve been reading more and more recently about how even after a living thing has left a space, it is possible that their residual energy can linger. You can feel it, even when you’d give anything to erase it. That’s what this song is about…that shadow that haunts you, that memory that overstays it’s welcome, that person whose presence is still there long after they’re gone.”
