Sufvyn Releases Ascension EP

Post Author: Andre G

As awareness of the Afrofuturist artistic aesthetic continues to rise, there has been increasing connection between artists in America and Africa. This kinship has benefited a wave of exciting artists amidst the huge, diverse continent that for so long has been ignorantly portrayed in the West as a big field.
One of those exceptional musicians is Sufvyn, a self-proclaimed “Sudanese beatsmith” from Khartoum, Sudan. Today, he released his Ascension EP, a 5-song project that sees him exploring the texture amidst a variety of African percussion.
From project opener “Dust,” which sounds like a scene from an Afrofuturist western, to “Rupture,” a transfixing experimental track that breaks into smooth electro-pop, Sufvyn’s 5th project showcases his ability to marry traditionally live African drums with thick, mysterious synths. Despite it’s brevity, Ascension is an impressive offering that immerses in a series of intriguing sonic dovetails.
