This spring, Canadian psych collective Chocolat – expertly comprised of Jimmy Hunt, Ysaël Pépin, Emmanuel Ethier, Evan Sharma, and Christophe Lamarche-Ledoux – has been touring in support of their album Rencontrer Looloo. Though close to the end of this tour, they’re about to play some big shows, one of which is happening at NYC’s Baby’s All Right on Saturday, June 3rd. It will be their first performance in New York since 2016’s CMJ.
Though when people google them they may find more screen grabs from the Johnny Depp movie from 2000 or photos of fancy chocolates, they might find that the band themselves would be a breath of fresh air next to the other options. Creating rhythmic, beautiful tracks with intricately woven French lyrics, Chocolat provides a getaway from your every day.
If you’ve got time to kick it with Chocolat this weekend, tickets are still available. They’ll be performing with Daisy Glaze and Bueno, with tickets priced at only $10. They will also play with Sam Kogon and Chorizo at Berlin in New York on June 4th.
