Mia Berrin and her band Pom Pom Squad played San Francisco’s Rickshaw Stop on March 17th. The Brooklyn-based foursome have been out on the US leg of their tour for their well-received second record, Mirror Starts Moving Without Me, released last fall. The 21-song setlist included the entirety of Mirror, plus most of their first record Death of a Cheerleader (including their stellar cover of “Crimson and Clover”). Set set also included a cover of Metric’s “Black Sheep” (which could’ve been a cover of a cover as the song was popularized by the fictional band The Clash at Demonhead in the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).
The night saw devoted fans in angel wings screaming along, roses thrown into the crowd, and a generally fantastic time was had by all.
Pop singer Caroline Kingsbury, resplendent in her New Romantic/80s glam look that would’ve looked at home in Jem and the Holograms, opened with a fantastic, energetic set of her own.
