Come fall, dance-poppers Lemonade are returning with a new album, Minus Tide, the first on new home Cascine Records. If the first single “Stepping” is any indication, it’s, well, poppy. “Stepping” could be a Top 40 hit if its synthier-than-synth sound didn’t scream “something bigger's going on.” Take the opening chords, for instance, which don’t sound all that different than Liturgy’s “High Gold”. Like Cut Copy, they’ve cultivated a niche—stadium-sized indie-pop—and they do it exceptionally well.
Minus Tide is out September 9.
