Conor Oberst’s beloved indie-emo act thrills Del Mar crowd

This past weekend, Conor Oberst’s beloved indie-emo act Bright Eyes cruised through San Diego county and delivered a stunning set for a sold-out crowd at The Sound Del Mar. Performing a healthy dose of tracks off last year’s LP Five Dice, All Threes, Oberst and the band were in tight form, blending indie, emo, and folk impulses with effortless, telekinetic execution. They also performed a number of tracks off their all-time great, fan-favorite albums I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. Exactly what fans had hoped for.

Earlier in the night, former Girls frontman Christopher Owens performed an enrapturing solo set featuring tracks off his wonderful latest album I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair, as well as a few covers, including a set-closing performance of Girls’ classic “Life in San Francisco.” Overall, a phenomenal night of indie rock in Del Mar.
