The veteran rap star lit up a raucous show in NYC along with Just Blaze, Mannie Fresh, DJ Kev & more
This past week, New Orleans rapper Juvenile took over Brooklyn Bowl to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of his iconic hit “Back That Azz Up.” He also brought a whole lot of friends with him, including Just Blaze, Mannie Fresh, DJ Kev, and more to ring in the occasion.
The night kicked off in style with an extended DJ set from DJ Kev, who warmed up the crowd and briefly dropped a No Limit track, which prompted an attendee to exclaim that “it’s Cash Money tonight!” Kev simply smiled and responded that “it’s all love.” From there, Just Blaze threw down a set that included tracks from Jay-Z and Joe Budden, while Juvenile came onto the stage and danced along to show his appreciation. Blaze also teased the crowd a couple times with a snippet of “Back That Azz Up.” Following that performance was Mannie Fresh, the DJ-producer and Cash Money staple, who dropped an energetic set of tracks including hits from Tevin Campbell, Mary J. Blige, Too $hort, Al Green, The Isley Brothers, and a medley of New York rap bangers: “We Gonna Make It” by Jadakiss, “Hey Ma” by Cam’ron, “Put Your Lighters Up” by Lil’ Kim, and “Who Shot Ya?” by The Notorious B.I.G. This segued into a guest appearance from Drew “Grandmaster Dee” Carter of Whodini, who came out to do his verses from “I’m a Ho” and “Friends” before Juvenile came out to perform.
The party did not stop. Eventually, Juvenile made his grand entrance, kicking off with “Ha” and other tracks off 400 Degreez, which came out almost 26 years ago. It was a victory lap of hits and guest appearances, including a crowd address from former MTV VJ Sway, a DJ assist from Mannie Fresh, and Peter Gunz and Grandmaster Dee joining Juvenile for an epic finale performance of “Back That Azz Up.” All in all, it was a triumphant night for Juvenile, who along with a cadre of close friends, turned back the clock and celebrated his biggest hit, which continues to strike a cord in hip-hop circles and beyond.
