Every year Governors Ball feels like the official kick off party to summer and this 2018 lineup is the perfect sound track. Jack White, Eminem & Travis Scott are leading the pack with Yeah Yeah Yeahs, James Blake, The Gaslight Anthem (performing the ’59 sound), N.E.R.D, CHVRCHES & Sylvan Esso as the solid subs for the weekend. Let’s not forget the seriously sick undercard of Pond, Wolf Alice, Cut Copy, Kelela, Billie Eilish & Kali Uchis who are sure to put on fun day time sets.
It feels great to have hometown babes Yeah Yeah Yeahs back in action and supplying us with that good old 2000’s NYC gritty rock and roll. It is an absolute cannot miss set. Karen O is a wonderful front woman that was pushing of the envelope both artistically, theatrically and fashionably since before Gaga!
There are some difficult conflicts throughout the weekend like Goldlink V. Flight Facilites, Jack White V. James Black & Japandroids V. Kelela but the most heartbreaking of all feels to be CHVRCHES V. N.E.R.D on Sunday evening. The rarity and nostalgia factor makes N.E.R.D them a no-brainer but the decision no easier.
GovBall food line-up never seems to disappoint. The fan favorites are back at Randall’s Island like brick oven, Roberta’s Pizza and the always reliable The Nugget Spot. If you’re thirsty there is the mouth watering John’s Juices that literally come in watermelon & pineapple cups for their respective fruit juices. Don’t forget Matchabar to supply you with all of your matcha-caffine needs. If you’re looking to get some insta-worthy dessert ops Taiyaki NYC & Wowfulls are the perfect options.
Though never on the line-up but always a show-up our good old friend, rain, seems to be making an appearance this weekend again. Don’t let mother nature rain on your parade! Festivals feel more fun once everyone is soaked. Bring yourself a fold-up poncho, waterproof dancing shoes and an extra pair of socks to stay ahead of the curve.
Looking forward to seeing you out there!
