Get Weird: Dunes at New Museum

Post Author: Eric Phipps

On Friday, August 24th, LA's Dunes played NYC for the first time, two days ahead of their Death By Audio show as part of New Museum's monthly Get Weird musical series.

Dunes was really quite good. You can check out Dunes's music here and their most recent album Noctiluca features a video for every song on the album which you can check out on their YouTube channel. You can describe their music as “dream pop” but it edges closer to a knife edged nightmare than traditional beach music. Zone out to it at your own risk. (The movie they were showing behind them was 1980s schlock kid's horror film “The Gate” which celebrates it's 25th anniversary this year. Feelin' old here in these parentheses).

Household released one of my favorite albums last year, the almighty Items. You can listen to that album here. You should probably buy it. Household TRAGICALLY does not have any upcoming shows but you can check out lead singer Tayla Cooper's other band, In School. In School is one of the better hardcore bands I've caught this year. Make sure you check out the lyrics because In School is about more than generic dude rage.

The next Get Weird event at New Museum features no-wave legend Arto Lindsay.

The NY premier of LA's Dunes and a rare live show by Household.
