Ritual Humor–a NYC trio comprised of Celeste Carballo (guitar, vocals), Mathew Petronelli (synth, percussion), and James Stuart (drums, percussion)–is making the rounds with a new EP, titled In the Forests of the Night. Raw, intense, and intriguing, every track is established with a unique drum beat. True to its tribal cover art, every song’s percussion section could be confused for use in an ancient mating ritual, and I’m not sure anyone here is above using it in our own modern mating rituals, if you feel me.

We would never forget to mention the guitar riffs and killer vocals, as Celeste dazzles us with her immense talents. We’d compare her vibe–and even her sound–to the likes of a much tamer Meg Myers. Slow, exact, and tranquil vocals. And that’s not to say the music is tame. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. And we it’s something we dig.

So hard.

In the Forests of the Night is available now.
