The Coathangers recently released a split 7" with Suicide Squeeze labelmates Nü Sensae featuring a song called "Derek's Song" that touches on the untimely death of a close friend. The song may be dark in subject, but the straightforward, crispy hi-tension beats and its accompanying organ chords make it push forward at a breakneck, pop-dense speed. The Coathangers delivered a Mike Moore-directed video for "Derek's Song" today that mimics this vibe exactly: a subtly light time-warped party that looks fun and freewheeling, until things go ever so wrong. The black-and-white footage and the old school costumes make the storyline feel campy in all the right ways.
