San Diego ethereal-folk group The Midnight Pine – comprised of Shelbi Bennet, Alfred Howard, and Matt Molarius – is prepping to released their self-titled record on October 7th. We’ve got your exclusive first look at the stunning video for “Bends and Bows”.
“[‘Bends and Bows’ is] the first and only song where Shelbi, Matt and I collaborated on lyrics,” Howard explains. “Shelbi wrote the first verse, I wrote the second and Matt wrote the chorus, but it felt like we found a common voice and tone. The tunnel it was shot is in the South Park neighborhood and one of Shelbi’s favorite secrets. It has a natural reverb that adds to the haunt of her voice. “
Shot in black and white, the video is a transparent, acoustic take on an absolutely gorgeous single. You will find yourself impressed by their natural ability to harmonize, the incredible emotion in the song itself, and holding onto the beauty in the simplicity of it all.
“That video was filmed in this tunnel that I stumbled upon a few years back,” expands Bennett. “It’s my favorite place to sing because of the natural reverb. I go down there to sing just because it feels good. The day we filmed was a couple days after my fiance and I split up so there was a lot of weight and emotion in the tunnel that day. I think the way all of that is translated into the video is pretty special.”
