Here's the thing: no one really watches or cares about music videos anymore. Is that the fault of music videos? Not really. Is that the fault of BuzzFeed? Probably. But if you're a band trying to get someone's attention, you might want to consider the angle Yeah Yeah Yeahs took with their most recent for "Mosquito". In the video, a hyper-upclose shot of a mosquito biting a child's hand is the only thing the viewer sees as it gorges and grows with mottled blood. It is, well, disgusting. And also my worst nightmare. But can't say I didn't watch the whole thing, because I did. And you probably will too since it is truly hard to turn away from. The video was directed by B. Shimbe Shim, the artist who did the controversially unsettling artwork for the album with the same name.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' most recent release, Mosquito, is out now on Interscope.
