Toronto’s indie pop, collective Dragonette – comprised ofMartina Sorbara, Dan Kurtz, Joel Stouffer – has been meticulously preparing their next work of art for our listening ears. In fact, this new collection is an album entitled Royal Blues, and its official release date is tomorrow. But before it’s out, we’ve got the premiere of their single “High Five”.
Like many (amazing) Dragonette songs, this one starts immediately with fun percussion, an upbeat anthem of a dance song if ever there was one. It has an almost 50’s cheerleader vibe to it – or 50’s or cheerleader vibes, respectively – and we almost thought someone would shout out, “B-A-N-A-N-A-S!” It’s quirky, the narrative is hilarious, and it’s wrapped in a perfect, vibrant, Dragonette bow.
