Merge announced last fall that they'd be releasing the new Reigning Sound record this spring and we all held our breaths. The last full-length album from the originators of garage rock was almost four years ago, so the anticipation has been building nicely ever since. Last week, the band shared a photo of them working hard in “the kitchen,” as one might call it, and we knew that this was the real deal. But wait, we said. That photo—is that where we think it is? It turns out that part of the recording process of the band's new album is happening at the studio of soul, Daptone Records, where Sharon King and the Daptones do their recording, among others. The meeting of different worlds is a joyful thing, so we can't wait to hear what the two entities produce together.
