The Crater's Kissing / Samba Party came out a day before my birthday, meaning almost eight months ago. Kind of an awkward period in between a crate digger and that which is newish, but who cares. The whole album is deliberately available for free (they insist) at Amazing Wow here.
Apparently envisioned as a double EP that divides starkly between different styles, Kissing / Samba Party ranges dramatically from dry guitar and vocal to sample-based electro-hip hop mashups somewhere between Baltimore's Food For Animals and the heady melodrama of Leed's Hood. Plus, a number of blogs can't resist hearing the Animal Collective parallels in “Samba Party” (don't forget this was a pre-Merriweather release).
