Do Stuff Hipsters Hate hate LATFH?

Look at this f************* article (look at how many letters I obliterated! Some don't even exist!) at The Millions. Hipsters are so meta. It's so cool to make fun of other hipsters while being a hipster. It says that publishers are all amorous for hipster books, including the first hipster ever sighted back in 2003–Robert Lanham and his Hipster Handbook. I recently read this. For real, I did.

Robert put everything into two categories–“deck” or “fin”–kind of mocking the terms, but also secretly wishing the lingo would take root in common parlance, hoping that Ashton Kutcher would pick up more from his handbook than just facial hair, trucker hats and a respect for 80s actresses.

Oh yeah, this f******************************* article. The farthest Morris goes back is 2003. Surely there were some funny hippie articles in the late 60s. Time Mag ran a spoof of the beats in the 50s. Someone had to make fun of the flappers in the 20s. Surely in 1867 there was someone wandering around the East Village wearing a Confederate soldier's uniform ironically. Research, let's try it. (To the non-hipsters–that was ironic! See, I didn't do any research myself!).

Look at this Joe Mande guy who wrote the book Look At This F****** Hipster. To most of America, he looks like a hipster. He has a hoodie. He wears a graphic tee. He has a dog on a leash. He's standing in front of an Obama poster. Joe is a hipster, the rest of his book are just freaks.

Look at this blog. Why does Tumblr get all the good stuff? Thought all the cool kids were ironically still on livejournal and Xanga.

Look at this quote. Take it away Joe: “It’s all about people trying so hard to look like they’re not trying hard. That’s what I make fun of. I keep the blog good-natured and light-hearted. I don’t hate them.”

Just to be clear, I don't think Joe hates hipsters either. He got a nice book deal and an advance from compiling photos and witty phrases together. Way to go Joe.

Look at those Stuff Hipsters Hate girls. They have to be hipsters to know what hipsters hate. Are those girls in Joe's book? Is Joe in their book? Look at that irony. I'll start a Tumblr blog about it.
