Ho99o9 are anything but subtle on “United States of Horror,” the title track of their upcoming debut full-length album. Distorted chords blend into siren calls as the OGM and Yeti Bones ask you to pledge allegiance to “The U.S. of Horror.” With thrash metal influences and tones that will surely blow out your subwoofers, this track and gritty and raw. The accompanying video is no different, as a man confined to a metal chair is exposed to dozens of graphic videos displaying everything from KKK rallies to modern police brutality. It’s not comfortable to watch, but it’s not meant to be. Instead, the duo are instigating a call to action in response to political turmoil and violent unrest.
Leading up to the release of “Horror,” Ho99o9 have been busy spreading their message and captivating audiences. Coming into the public light during an unstable political climate, Ho99o9 are aligned with the long-standing tradition of hip-hop in activism. The duo will simultaneously lay down rage-worthy beats while delivering some thematically heavy verses that will lead the next generation into a revolution.
