In case you haven’t heard, Queen Hilma is a duo made up of sisters Andi and Alex Peot. They’re from Green Bay and their music is described as folk-rock acoustic, which isn’t a style you hear every day. And they aren’t strangers to the spotlight, as the twin power duo gained a substantial amount of fame from their run on Season 9 of “The Voice”. What is unique and wonderful about them is that they didn’t continue on the heavily marketed path of other show veterans, instead allowing themselves time to curate a well rounded band and to really hone their craft and sound.
That time has certainly paid off.
Their most recent offering is a track called “Where Did You Go,” and it was released a few weeks ago. Get your ears on its intense, tranquil beauty below.
We had the chance to ask Andi and Alex some questions about their music.
Where did the moniker “Queen Hilma” come from?
Hilma was our grandmother who passed away in 2014, we wanted her name to live on forever. It was an easy pick, she meant the world to us.
What’s one thing everyone should know about you guys that they don’t already know?
We are total goofballs most of the time. We also love the show “Friends” and have watched every season at least 4 times through.
How would you describe your music?
Alt-Rock/Americana, it really depends on the song. We just want to make music with a mindset that their are no boundaries.
What/who has been the biggest influence to your music?
Our relationships with the people around us, past and present.
What song has been your favorite to create and why?
It’s hard to pick one song but our experience working with Howard Redekopp on our EP was incredible, we connect so well with him.
Do you have any interesting pre-performance rituals?
Yes, see attached video.
If you could perform with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
We can’t pick one.. Coldplay, John Lennon and The Eagles.
Fair enough. If your music was a food, what food would it be and why?
Assorted chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
Thor because of his..hair and washboard… intelligence, ya know?
Where do you imagine yourselves in 5 years?
Making records and touring the world. Rinse. Repeat.
What can we expect from Queen Hilma in the future?
New music, an amazing live show and more watched episodes of “Friends”.
