The fourth annual Sacramento Electronic Music Festival has expanded well past previous incarnations to include a free show at the Le Twist Tuesdays weekly at Low Brau, two nights at the newly opened venue Assembly and a secret location show for Saturday. It's hard to believe that four years ago, the SEMF was held at a venue more likely to be voted “Worst Bathrooms In Sacramento” than “Best Venue”. The independent festival has transformed from booking mostly local EDM artists with one out-of-town headliner to inviting Shlohmo, Mux Mool, Daedelus, Poirier, Tycho, Shigeto, Jonwayne, oOoOOO, and Groundislava.
While last year's SEMF was somewhat marred by the last minute cancelation of Death Grips, we think this year's lineup is constructed to hold strong with headlining artists like Pictureplane, Jerome LOL, Antwon, RemixArtistCollctive, Adult., Free The Robots, and Mophono. In past years, with only one venue to house 47 acts, the SEMF was an “everything all of the time” experience, as IDM, bled into electro-pop, into the LA beat scene, into house music. The 2013 version of the SEMF appears to utilize the central city as a venue. With less acts (roughly 30), each night ensures you won't miss a set unless you step out for a cigarette.
