Toronto’s own Little Coyote just released The Trouble With Teeth via Richmond, VA’s Egghunt Records & we deliver the following stream followed by exclusive insights from Teagan Johnston, Byron Patterson & Mike Poisson. Recorded/mixed courtesy of Nathan Carter Moore via Candle Recording with mastering by Reuben Ghose; illustrations of growing pains are illustrated in direct terms that turns the coming of age trajectory into it’s own modern day performance piece of unfiltered depictions of rapid running thoughts & mercurial feelings.
The Trouble With Teeth‘s song cycle of charged sentiments commences with “Blood Rush” that sets the tone of mortal preoccupations that ride forth on the fluttering urgency of “The Bottom”, the festival fancies of “Medicine”, to the parallels between day & night on “Daylight Twilight”, to the dental defective thoughts on “Teeth Rot”, that runs into the dramatic “Annie’s Dead” that may or may not have been inspired by the series Twin Peaks. Recipes for maudlin mornings grace forward on “Lucy Get Blue”, the energy & dissonance of “Electric”, to problematic greeting formalities on “Handshake Tragedy”, the delirious feelings of “Delirium”, before closing with the piano lead balladry of the title track that returns the focus to the original fixation. Little Coyote offered us the following exclusive behind-the-scenes reflections & introduction to their new album:

The Trouble With Teeth has been a long time coming for us. Teagan started writing it in 2013. Teagan and Byron met on Craigslist in 2014 in Toronto and Mike finally joined the band in 2015. Being in your early 20s I think is really harder than anyone will ever tell you, going after things you really want, trying new things, forming real relationships. The Trouble With Teeth is a really important album to all of us, it’s an album we’ve all taken the time to grow into. The Trouble With Teeth is about experiencing growing pains of the most literal sense possible, it’s about being 19 and experiencing the true fragility of life for the first time and trying to figure out what’s really important to you. We feel really lucky to be sharing it with everyone through EggHunt records, this will always be our first album and we are really excited about that.
