Recently Terroreyes.tv totally busted Cymbals Eat Guitars with a well-deserved “lame alert”, by drawing attention to a jacking of art for the album cover to the band's sophomore record Alien Lenses. Terroreyes.tv wrote, “When you ask somebody to do your record cover and they say no, it doesn't mean no, it means make a shittier version of an original and call it your own…” and then a twitter battle ensued (which @Cymbls_Eat_Gtrs has deleted*):
Like most Twitter battles, there was no resolve, nor compromise, just raging opinions being lashed about until everyone got tired and one party deleted its tweets to save face. In the end, it was no big deal. Cymbals Eat Guitar replaced its Allison Diaz-inspired cover with a blurry image of what may or may not be a spacecraft. The band also released a statement:
“Our original cover art for Lenses Alien was a collage that we did as an homage to an artist we admire. When we learned that this artist was not happy with how it turned out, we decided to change the design out of respect for their feelings. Plus, it wouldn’t be a Cymbals Eat Guitars album without a puzzling album-art change.”
Now, if CEG can just do something about Lenses Alien sounding like a Taking Back Sunday record, this lil puppy will be ready for the shelves.
Allison Diaz prints can be ordered at Bows Collective.
Cymbals Eat Guitars' Lenses Alien is out August 30 on Barsuk. The record is streaming at Spin.
