The mastermind behind Black Moth Super Rainbow goes “solo” and collaborates with Aesop Rock.
It's one thing to go to your bedroom to record an album, but Tobacco of Black Moth Super Rainbow has taken the comfort of seclusion to further escapism — rural Pennsylvania. Hopefully he was staying with Mennonites, otherwise this record is going to be as primitive as a the wheel — the Amish do not take kindly to samplers.
Tobacco's solo F***ed Up Friends has a bitching title and it looks like this:
01 Street Trash
02 Truck Sweat
03 Hairy Candy
04 Hawker Boat
05 Side 8 (Big Gums
Version)
06 Yum Yum Cult
07 Berries That Burn
08 Get My Nails Did
09 Dirt (Featuring Aesop Rock)
10 Gross Magik
11 Little Pink Riding Hood
12 Backwoods Altar
13 –
14 Tape Eater
15 Pink Goo
16 Grease Wizard
Here's one straight from the farm, “Truck Sweat”:
And a video for “Hawker Boat”:
The record is mostly instrumental with a lone guest spot from Aesop Rock, which has everyone at Impose super geeked-out as it follows in the tracks of his continued collaboration with the Mountain Goats, which we hope explains the letter we've just composed:
Dear Ace Riggidy Rock,
We support your continued addiction to Tobacco. We remembered hearing rumors of you cutting back your habit, a lifestyle change that concerned us for fear that your voice would no longer sound dope.
But this album has put those rumors to bed.
We are happy to see you say “yes” to Tobacco, especially since this habit is good for your health and street cred.
Hope this message finds you well.
Sincerely,
Impose.
F***ed Up Friends will be out October 14 on Anticon.
