Liturgy reforms Renihilation lineup, working on new album, reissuing debut

After releasing their breakthrough album Aesthethica in 2011, transcendent black metal band band Liturgy had some internal problems and went from a quartet to a duo of guitarist/vocalist Hunter Hunt-Hendrix and guitarist Bernard Gann, who have since been touring with electronic backing, sans drums and bass. But now, the band has announced that drummer Greg Fox (now of like a billion other bands, including GDFX) and bassist Tyler Dusenbury will be rejoining Hunt-Hendrix and Gann for a few American tour dates, including one in Brooklyn in August.

It’s unclear if the lineup is permanent, but given that Liturgy has already announced that they’re working on a follow-up to Aesthethica, scheduled now for 2015, all signs point to “maybe.” In addition to these new full-band dates and the new album, Liturgy is also scheduled to reissue their out-of-print 2009 debut, Renihilation, which will be out August 26 on Thrill Jockey Records.
