Sometimes the best way to make a breakthrough is to work backward. In the case of LA-based singer-songwriter Albon, learning disabilities informed matter over mind as he learned to play his dad’s nylon string guitar upside down as a youth. Going further, Albon would go on to craft his “upside down mind” style of songwriting, writing songs from the back to the front while informed by the innovative pop of golden-era Beach Boys.
Now, Albon is gearing up to unveil a new EP, Dream Weaver//Bee Keeper, with Impose happy to be bringing you the premiere of its latest single, “Call Me Up,” today.
On the track, Albon crafts a wistful atmosphere from the outset leading with acoustic guitar and soft, tender vocals. The rose-colored sonic valley belies the dichotomy at play thematically as Albon explores trying to be there for someone who in the end might be incapable of reciprocating. Ultimately, “Call Me Up” is a layered, nuanced blend of indie-pop and folk offering plenty to chew on as we await the next piece from this exciting new artist.
