To say an artist is one of a kind (and that actually being the case) in 2011 is an anamoly. But with confidence, one can tag the sounds of Ami Dang with said label. Churning a brew of warped bollywood-dancehall cosmos, Dang adds yet another corner to explore in the Baltimore music grid.
Her debut was released at the beginning of this year on Ehse, but she's back with some added help and was kind enough to allow us to share the first taste.
Ami Dang, “Kissed by the Fire”
Fresh from the mixing board, “Kissed by the Fire” will likely appear on Ami Dang's next full length. While it feaures the same hauntingly beautiful vocals and wordly melodies found on Hukam, “Kissed by the Fire” is amped up a bit in the beats department. Its percussion comes compliments of Kate Levitt, originally a member of Teeth Mountain. The track is also co-produced by Schwarz, which explains the feeling of wanting to get all weird on a dance floor.
You can catch Ami Dang tomorrow night in Brooklyn with Sri Aurobindo and Microkingdom at Cameo Gallery. RSVP for the 8 PM show right here, and peep the flyer by Kate Levitt below.
