Clicking through UNIF’s website, you’ll find yourself coming across fine articles of clothing replete axiomatic mantras and a variety of eclectic prints and materials. I mean, who wouldn’t want boxing shorts with “NO DUH” printed across the crotch ($105), a black jacket with the common saying “Wish You Were Beer” stitched into the back ($198), or the questionably titled and see-through “Bait Dress” ($88)? Well, if the clothing on the site doesn’t tickle your wallets or rouse sartorial epiphany, then you’ll be happy to know that UNIF is also doing music these days.
Seeming to follow clothing-brand-turned-rap-label harbinger Mishka’s example with Cakes Da Killa, UNIF will release Antwon’s new album Heavy Hearted In Doldrums. The album’s two singles, “Rain Song” and “Cold Tears,” each feature a different side of Antwon. Whereas “Rain Song” puts its beautiful, trip-hop beat to the forefront, “Cold Tears” is out to get you dancing, yelling “Cold tears in my eyes” along with Antwon. Both tracks exemplify Antwon’s self-reflective and incredibly open lyrical style, and feature wonderful production via producers Shawn Kemp and Matrixxman, respectively.
But if the music isn’t enough, then keep an eye out for the Antwon/UNIF collaborative clothing line that’ll be available for purchase around the album’s release.
UNIF will release Heavy Hearted In Doldrums as a free digital download and limited edition picture disc on May 5.
