As Memphis’ alt punk collective Aquarian Blood prepares for their album release next month, they’ve been turning toward pop culture and the American political climate for inspiration. Their song “Asshole In The Castle” has an all-too-obvious muse, and we’ve got the exclusive premiere on this, the historic day he officially takes office.
A belch, reverb, and an immense amount of nonsense fuel the intro to this song. Once the instrumentals get going, there’s a sense of doom that comes with the admittedly alien invader synth sounds. It’s not a surprise, as the band is known to nodding at the paranormal and obscure concepts in their music. The message is agonizing at best, which makes it all the more titillating for those of us ready to make a change.
“We have nothing to add to the dialogue surrounding the incoming idiot president what’s-his-face,” explains J.B. “But we are glad that Lee Greenwood found a way to temporarily prop up his irrelevant career.”
In addition to this big news, the band has shared some stills from the upcoming music video release for their single “Parasite Inside”. The incredible photos have been provided by the director of the video, Benphis. Check out the fun below!
Make sure to check out The Invaders, a documentary J.B. has been working on about civil rights activists in 1967. Eerily enough, we can see very important parallels to present day, despite the fifty year time gap.
Last Nite In Paradise is out February 10th via Goner Records. It is available for preorder now (CD/LP, Bandcamp). Keep up with the band here.
